Understanding the Zone System
The metro runs across four fare zones. Roughly:
- Zone 1 — far west of the Red Line: Jebel Ali, Ibn Battuta and the Route 2020 / Expo branch.
- Zone 2 — west-central Red Line: Mall of the Emirates, Dubai Internet City, Dubai Marina (Sobha Realty, DMCC).
- Zone 6 — central Dubai: Downtown (Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall), Business Bay, DIFC, World Trade Centre, plus Bur Dubai and the Creek on the Green Line.
- Zone 5 — Deira and the airport: Union, the airport terminals, Centrepoint, and the northern Green Line.
