Dubai Metro Blue Line
The Blue Line is the Dubai Metro's biggest expansion yet. Currently under construction with an opening target of 9 September 2029, it will add around 30 km of track and 14 stations, linking fast-growing communities in eastern Dubai to the existing Red and Green network.
A Revolutionary Transit Expansion
The Blue Line is designed to serve some of Dubai's fastest-growing districts — areas that have boomed since the original network was planned. By tying neighbourhoods such as Dubai Creek Harbour, International City, Silicon Oasis and Academic City into the metro, it aims to cut car journeys, ease congestion and open up new development corridors.

Key Stations & Infrastructure
🏛️ Emaar Properties Station
Planned as the architectural centrepiece of the whole line, the Emaar Properties Station is intended to be a landmark in its own right — a large, design-led interchange that ties the Blue Line into the wider network and anchors new development around it. It is expected to be one of the busiest stations on the route and a signature image for the project, much as Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall is for the Red Line today.
💻 Dubai Silicon Oasis & Academic City
For the first time the metro will reach two of Dubai's biggest tech and education clusters. Dubai Silicon Oasis is a free-zone technology park and residential community home to thousands of workers and start-ups, while Academic City concentrates many of the emirate's universities and colleges. Connecting them by rail should take a large number of daily student and commuter car trips off the roads in the east of the city.
🏙️ International City & Dubai Creek Harbour
The line will also serve International City, one of Dubai's most densely populated residential districts, which has long lacked a rapid-transit link, and Dubai Creek Harbour, the major waterfront development rising beside the Ras Al Khor wildlife sanctuary. Both areas are growing quickly, and a direct metro connection is expected to be a significant draw for residents and investors alike.
Construction Timeline
- Now: tunnelling and civil works under way.
- Ahead: stations, track and systems installation.
- 9 September 2029: official opening target.
Economic & Social Impact
By extending rapid transit into eastern Dubai, the Blue Line is expected to raise property values along its corridor, reduce road traffic, and give hundreds of thousands of residents a direct metro link to the rest of the city.
